Student Achievement Award Criteria

2009 IABC Detroit Student Achievement Award

The IABC/Detroit Student Achievement Award Program recognizes undergraduate communication students in southeastern Michigan, northwestern Ohio and southwestern Ontario for internship projects, class projects or campus activities.

A student (not groups) can be nominated or sponsored or submit his or her own work. There is no entry fee to apply for the Student Achievement Award.

Award Criteria:

•  Award is intended for undergraduate students enrolled in a communication-related college-level curriculum (such as Communication, Journalism, English, Commercial Art, Advertising or Marketing) in a college or university in the southeastern Michigan, northwestern Ohio or southwestern Ontario area.

•  The work submitted must be a communication internship project, class coursework or project or a communication-related campus activity done voluntarily for an affinity or service organization or for class credit.

•  More than half of the project must have been completed between March 2008 and March 2009.

•  Each entry must include a Work Plan containing, in 500 words or less, an overview of the assignment, the methods/approach used to accomplish the assignment, the results and what was learned from completing the assignment.

•  A brief statement from the professor/instructor, volunteer group leader or person to whom the entrant reported during the internship, verifying that the entry meets the award criteria, must accompany each entry.

•  Each entry must be the original work of a single entrant.

•  Submission will be judged on thoroughness of work within the scope of the assignment, organization of thought and argument and originality of ideas and presentation.

•  Student entrants need not be IABC members.

•  Student entrants can be nominated or sponsored by an organization (such as a school or affinity group) or can submit entries directly.

•  More than one submission per entrant is allowed.

•  There is no entry fee for the Student Achievement Award!

•  All entries must be received by 5 p.m., March 17, 2009.

The winner of the Student Achievement Award receives a plaque for display (awarded at the annual Renaissance Awards event in June), mention in various press releases, a $250 cash prize and a year's free membership in IABC.
