Visteon’s New Corporate Communications Director Explains Issue Management from the Inside Out at the February IABC/Detroit Luncheon

DETROIT, Jan. 30, 2004 – Jim Fisher, the new corporate communications director at Visteon Corp., will share his philosophy on driving effective internal communications during turbulent and uncertain corporate times at the Feb. 11 meeting of the Detroit chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC/Detroit). Fisher, a 20-year communications veteran with experience at several Fortune 500 companies, is part of a team leading Visteon’s efforts to maintain accurate and timely employee communications.

“Since practically every organization will experience a crisis at one time or another, every communications professional will benefit from the opportunity to hear some practical advice from a crisis communications veteran,” said 2003-2004 IABC/Detroit President Cindy Orlandi, APR. “An organization's internal communications during and after the crisis can help influence whether it has short- or long-term consequences.”

Fisher joined Visteon in October 2003 after four years as communications director at Federal-Mogul Corp., a leading auto supplier that voluntarily filed for restructuring under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in October 2001. The filing was the largest cross-border insolvency filing by an automotive supplier. He previously spearheaded internal and external communications activities for the automotive units of Honeywell/AlliedSignal and United Technologies after serving in an employee communications role at Detroit Edison. Fisher began his career as a daily newspaper reporter in southwestern Michigan after earning a journalism degree at Central Michigan University.

The IABC/Detroit professional development program will be held at the Westin Hotel, 1500 Town Center, Southfield, from 11:45 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Admission is $30 for members and $35 nonmembers, including lunch. For reservations, contact Nancy Skidmore at (248) 546-5490 by Feb. 4.

IABC/Detroit, one of the largest chapters of the 13,000-member International Association of Business Communicators, has more than 250 professional communicators. The chapter, which includes members in Michigan, Ohio and Canada, holds monthly professional development programs; sponsors workshops; offers job referral services, informative publications, award programs, accreditation programs and the opportunity to meet and network with other communicators.
